# How to deactivate and activate an occurrence category in Qualiex?
In some cases, a category previously registered and used in the *Occurrences* module may no longer be appropriate due to updates or process changes within the organization.
In such situations, the best practice is to **inactivate** the category, preventing it from being selected in new occurrences.
This approach keeps the system organized and up to date, while preserving full traceability, since the deactivated category remains recorded in the history but is no longer available when registering new occurrences.
### 1. Access the module
Click here to learn how to access the *Occurrences* module in Qualiex.
### 2. Deactivating a category
Click the **Categories** tab, then right‑click the desired category or open the context menu  and select **“Inactivate.”**
To deactivate/activate a category, the user must have the permission **“Manage types, categories, and cause classifications,”** defined under **Configurations > Roles and Permissions**.

When clicking **“Inactivate,”** the category will no longer be displayed, and a confirmation message will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Once deactivated, the category can no longer be selected in new occurrences, but it will continue to be displayed in records where it was already used.
Example: **Service \[Inactive\]**.
### 3. How to view inactive categories?
To view inactive categories, you must adjust the filter in the **“Status”** column.
Open the column’s context menu  , go to **“Filter,”** select **“Inactive,”** and click **“Apply.”**

After applying the filter, inactive categories will appear in a light grey tone to differentiate them from active ones.
### **4. Activating an inactive category**
Right‑click the inactive category you want to reactivate, or open the context menu and select **“Activate.**
When clicking **“Activate,”** the category will be displayed normally again, and a confirmation message will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Once activated, the category becomes available again for selection when registering new occurrences.
